Marine Engine Machinist – Marine-engine mechanic Installs and repairs gasoline and diesel engines in boats, for example yachts, tugs, and trawlers, following specifications: Positions engine over mounting holes, using chain hoist. Bolts engine to mount and straps fuel tank to cradle, using handtools. Connects fuel, oil, and waterlines to engine. Installs engine controls, propeller shaft, and propeller. Attaches test instruments, for example tachometer and voltmeter to engine. Starts engine and records operating data, for example revolutions per minute, and voltage output. Disassembles defective engines and repairs or replaces damaged parts, using handtools.
